Chesapeake & Ohio C&O Canal Maryland Md $.50 Obsolete Currency 1838 Script Note

Chesapeake & Ohio C&O Canal Maryland Md $.50 Obsolete Currency 1838 Script Note

$ 239.99

Here is a 50 cent payment note for workers on the C&O Canal.  Measures about
6" x 2 3/8".  Has original signature... J P McLaughlin (I think) for J. Noble Nisbet.  It has wrinkles.  I'm not grading this because I don't know how to.  I have several of these that I've had for 15+ years and now they have to go.   I do know that most of the edges are in tact, you just need to "roll" out the rest of the note.  The edges are not raggady or torn off.
Do not to be confused with the more common $5, $10 and $20 notes issued in Frederick, MD and Washington DC. This note is from Rock Difficult, MD issued on April 18th, 1838 for Section 329 & Lock 68 specifically. The note is hand signed For J. Noble Nisbet.  This note is recognized  Shank 24.15.UNL (unlisted) and is mentioned in the book, "Money and Banking in Maryland" published by the Maryland Historical Society.  I also have a $.25 note out there as well.
